Bob Boxall is a New Zealand-based writer with a longstanding fascination with the history, landscapes and cultural memory of Southeast Asia.

Khum Chao Burirat grew from his interest in Northern Thailand, Lanna architecture and the enduring mystery surrounding Jim Thompson’s disappearance. The house at the centre of the novel was inspired by a real Lanna home in Mae On—a place whose atmosphere remained with him long after he left.

He lives in New Zealand.
